Carabao Cup Highlights
Manchester United have been dominant in road games this year, in all fixtures and competitions. This Premier League season they’ve scored in all eight of their fixtures, better yet, the goals have come in bunches with every game featuring at least three United scores.
Going into this Carabao Cup fixture, there was no doubt that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad would be confident in their goal scoring form. Unfortunately, the cookie didn’t crumble that way exactly and the United team needed to find some resolve late on in the fixture.
Manchester United dominated the possession and had 19 significant shots, with eight of them being on target. The Toffees only managed seven total shots and three on target in the 96 minutes.
The first half was all United, but still, nothing to show on the scoreboard. When play resumed for the second half, the game was more up-tempo and had increased physicality.
Somehow Edinson Cavani managed to remain on the pitch even though he grabbed at Yerry Mina’s throat. This was a big talking point for the fixture as Cavani’s left-footed shot from 23 metres out broke the deadlock in the 88th minute.
The result was finished off with a goal for substitute Anthony Martial in the 96th minute, marking the end of the game and closing the final eight.
Everton bows out in the quarter-final, but there may be more hangover to come for an Everton team that is flying high in the Premier League at the moment. Richarlison was subbed off in the 56th minute due to a knock, so, it will be interesting to see whether he can kick-on for Everton’s game against Sheffield United on Sunday.

Now that all four fixtures are in the bag, we can see what’s ahead. In the New Year, Tottenham Hotspur will face Brentford, and the second semi is a blockbuster fixture – a Manchester derby. The two Manchester teams played each other just over two weeks ago in the Premier League, with that game-ending a nil-all draw.
